Proper tire pressure is crucial for your vehicle’s safety, performance, and fuel efficiency. Regularly checking and maintaining the correct tire pressure can extend the lifespan of your tires and enhance your driving experience.
Checking Tire Pressure:
Find the Recommended Pressure: Refer to your vehicle’s owner’s manual or the sticker typically located on the driver’s side door jamb, fuel filler flap, or glove box door for the recommended PSI (pounds per square inch).
Check When Cold: For the most accurate reading, check your tire pressure when the tires are “cold,” meaning they haven’t been driven for at least three hours or more than a mile or two.
Use a Reliable Gauge: Remove the valve cap from the tire valve, firmly press the gauge onto the valve stem, and read the displayed pressure (dial or digital).
Compare and Adjust: Compare the reading to the recommended PSI. If it’s too low, add air using an air compressor; if too high, release air by pressing the center pin of the valve stem with the gauge or a small tool.
Check All Tires (Including Spare): Repeat the process for all four tires and, if applicable, your spare tire.
